CHIN-CHIN
CHIN-CHIN BUDAPEST
CHIN-CHIN is a franchise project with a clearly defined set of mandatory elements that shape its global recognizability.
CHIN-CHIN Budapest was conceived as a departure from the classic format — a fusion of the brand’s DNA with the izakaya concept, a Japanese bar known for its relaxed atmosphere and a mix of food and drinks.
As a result, the project offers a new interpretation of CHIN-CHIN beyond its traditional format.

Step-by-step process that ensures flawless results

01.Workshop:
Deep Site Audit and Layout Constraints in Budapest
Work on the Budapest project began with a deep spatial analysis, where we first encountered a site that dictated its own terms. The premises were divided into two contrasting zones: a summer terrace, which granted us full freedom for planning maneuvers, and a main elongated hall with multi-level ceilings and an existing logic of basement transitions. This initial audit defined our path: we had to do more than just adapt the design; we had to integrate complex engineering and logistics into the building's pre-established points.

02.Concept:
CHIN-CHIN Budapest: A New Take on a Classic
CHIN-CHIN is a franchise project. Like any franchise, it has a clearly defined set of mandatory elements—furniture, décor, finishes, and operational methods—that ensure the brand is recognizable anywhere in the world.
CHIN-CHIN Budapest was designed to be a slightly different format: both a classic CHIN-CHIN and a CHIN-CHIN integrated with the izakaya concept.

An izakaya is a typical Japanese bar where people come to drink after work. It serves both food and drinks. Most izakayas feature Western-style tables and chairs, as well as private rooms with tatami floors, following Japanese traditions. For this reason, from the very start it was clear that not all elements typical for the brand could be applied in this project.
Overall, the goal was to create a CHIN-CHIN that is far from the classic format.

03.Development:
Engineering Solutions and Technical Precision
The transition to working drawings became a stage of engineering refinement. To conceal massive utilities and the parking mechanism of the sliding ceiling, we designed a complex system of wooden structures with metal mesh inserts extending to the very top. This solution not only masked technical noise but also visually unified the two halls into a single composition.
Every node — from the backlit glass blocks in the open kitchen to the mirrored tabletops in the center of the hall — was meticulously calculated to prevent any errors during construction.

04.Implementation:
Final Implementation: Brand Capitalization and Spatial Identity
At the implementation stage, we brought to life a complex hybrid concept where the recognizable franchise DNA met the authenticity of a Japanese Izakaya. The main visual and energetic center of the space is a vibrant DJ booth, around which the entire dynamics of the establishment are built, enhanced by large-scale bas-reliefs of fish moving in a circle.
For zoning, we developed a unique central element made of beams with accent wrapping, inspired by centuries-old Japanese traditions, which allowed us to break the visual connection between transit areas and cozy seating. Mirror tabletops and a wall of backlit glass blocks at the edge of the open kitchen added extra depth to the interior, transforming a challenging space into a cohesive and high-tech hospitality asset.
